Hamilton wants to remain airport manager
Jim Hamilton, whose name has been synonymous with Owens Field for two decades, is negotiating with a company to take over pilot services at the county-owned, in-town airport.
But Hamilton wants to stay on as airport manager and is seeking an annual salary from Richland County, those knowledgeable about the plan said Friday.
Hamilton acknowledged he has a letter of intent from Eagle Aviation to buy his company, Jim Hamilton Aircraft.
He said talks are too preliminary to discuss. Company president Dave Lipski confirmed Eagle's interest but also would not discuss details.
The airport, off Jim Hamilton Boulevard in the Rosewood community, serves as an important portal for corporate fliers and a center for recreational pilots.
